Acts Bible Church Leadership

Our Story

Evangelical Acts Bible Church (ABC) was planted in October 2023 by a team from Cornerstone Church in Johannesburg, our mother church. Our elders share a common grounding in reformed traditions, though each has been drawn into more charismatic and Spirit-led expressions of faith. We are united by a shared calling to make disciples through God's Word. Explore our journey to learn more about the elders and how God brought us together.

Cornerstone Church is part of New Covenant Ministries International (NCMI), a family of churches committed to biblical teaching and raising leaders. Cornerstone emphasizes the plurality of eldership—the principle that a local church should be governed by multiple elders rather than a single leader. With a culture of eagerly raising and releasing leaders, Cornerstone has a strong church-planting vision that led to the birth of ABC.

The journey began in 2019 when our lead elder was ordained at Cornerstone, followed by years of preparation and prayer. After launching in 2023, God continued to build His church, and by November 2024, additional elders were ordained, establishing the biblical pattern of plurality in leadership. Our story is one of God's faithfulness—bringing together people from reformed backgrounds to pursue Christ and His Kingdom in a Spirit-filled environment.

At ABC, we aim to create an environment that is evangelical, charismatic, Bible-based, Christ-centred, orderly, easy-going, and reverent—a place where believers can grow in their faith and newcomers feel welcome.

Our Vision

"Back to Basics"

In one line, our vision at Acts Bible Church (ABC) is "Back to Basics", to the ABC of Christianity. For us, these basics focus on the King (our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ), and the Kingdom. We aim to see people more in love with God and the Kingdom of God.

Let's be honest, a church can quickly become a complex organization. Our vision is to take us back to the basics of Bible-based teaching that amplifies the Gospel and teachings of Jesus. By reviving the basics, we believe our local church would be a good environment for new believers, as well as those people who may have left church due to the complexities they observed.

Our Mission

Evangelical Acts Bible Church aims to disciple families through the Word of God to revive a love for God whilst offering an easygoing environment where new believers can grow in the Lord.

What We Love

The values and practices that define our community

We Love Bible Reading

We're currently reading through the entire Bible from Genesis to Revelation in a year. Join us in this daily journey through God's Word as we immerse ourselves in Scripture and hear God's voice. Follow along with our readings and teachings on our Whole Bible Reading YouTube channel.

We Love Bible Teaching

We're passionate about reading through the Bible together as a church family. Currently, we're following a Bible-in-a-year plan, journeying from Genesis to Revelation together. This shared experience includes daily encouragement as we keep each other accountable and growing in God's Word. When we gather, we prefer expository preaching—teaching verse by verse through books of the Bible—though we address specific topics as needed. Our approach keeps us grounded in Scripture and helps everyone, from new believers to mature Christians, grow deeper in their understanding of God's Word.

We Love Including Children

We believe that children are the church of today. We want to include children in our ministry, not as an afterthought, but as an obedience to Jesus saying the children should be received. We embrace children because we are all children before God, and we want to walk in humility and faith before God, just as Jesus said, the Kingdom of God belongs to such as these (Luke 18:16).

We Love to See Men Coming to Church

We want to see more men coming to church, who seem fewer in number in churches according to our observation. We believe that in a society where men fear God, women and children will be protected and cared for. We do care to minister to all people young and old, men and women, however, we want to especially reach out to men, who in turn, can lead their families and be as priests over their households.

"Therefore I want the men everywhere to pray, lifting up holy hands without anger or disputing." - 1 Timothy 2:8

We want to see men lifting up hands for prayer instead of violence.

We Love the Kingdom of God

The Bible can be used as a literature study, a historical resource, and for life lessons. We believe it should additionally and primarily be used as God's Word which points us to the Kingdom of God. Life lessons, or motivation, is secondary to our primary task of preaching the Kingdom of God (which Jesus came preaching).

Our mission is to spread the Gospel and inspire people to surrender their whole lives before the King, our Lord and Saviour, Christ Jesus. As such, we are a Christ centered community.
